An Editorial Venture Into the Undefined

“In everything that lives, if one looks searchingly, is limned the shadow line of an idea,” wrote Voltairine de Cleyre, an early American anarchist. If ideas are a kind of throughline that connects all people, as she says, then it is through the careful and considered examination of those ideas that we discover how to best coordinate and coexist with one another.

Strides to build a world powered by blockchain technology signify investment in a future that remains unknowable. One of the imperatives, then, is to make sure that the best minds possible are involved in defining what a decentralized world can offer. Identifying and empowering the imaginations that will help us better define what it means to create an abundant future, and for whom, is central to the Friends With Benefits ethos.

Works In Progress is an editorial platform dedicated to analyzing advancements in decentralized technology and the culture surrounding it. As we observe the margins where Web3 intersects with the broader world, our aim is to help bridge the gaps— between convention and innovation, between creativity and commerce —by delineating space to nurture nuanced thinking.

Our stance is that Web3 is vital and exciting, but a critical lens is essential. The future that so many believe Web3 promises is only achievable if we can collectively refine and redefine what it is that we're working towards, to ensure that both the means and ends are approached with intention.

Works In Progress is a living record of the questions, doubts, and quandaries that arise as well as the hopes and ambitions. We compile and share these reflections with the belief that their faceted perspectives may help us to make better sense of the transformative shifts taking place around us today and tomorrow.
